Introducing healthy eating habits in kids from an early age is very vital in today’s world. Our grocery store shelves are so fil led with processed food, that we need to take time to make the right food choices. Research says that kids develop taste buds based on foods they are introduced to. So it is more than just supplying their daily calorific requirements. They develop an eating pattern for their lifetime based on what they are exposed to. It is important for parents and elders to introduce them to healthy foods and help them make that better choice for their future life. One of the first steps to reducing child obesity and ...... In this post, we will discuss ways in which schools can hide real information behind a simple number and how you can uncover the truth. There are 3 main things you should be aware of when looking at Student teacher ratio quoted by a school. Student teacher ratio is NOT equal to number of students in a given class: Student teacher ratio is simply the ratio of total number of students in a school with the total number of teachers in a school. Just for our understanding, consider a school with just one class and one section. This school has 60 students in that one class. Also, this school has 5 teachers, one for each subject of English, Maths, Science, Social Science and Hindi. The teacher student ratio of this school is 12 (60 students and 5 teachers). However, the number of students that will be taught by one teacher is still 60!... [More]

Student teacher ratio is a ratio of number of students attending the school the school with number of teachers employed by the school. As an example, a student teacher ratio of 25:1 shows that for every 25 students attending the school, there is a 1 teacher. This ratio indicates (indirectly) the attention that a student is likely to receive in a class in that particular school. A class will have students with diverse interests and different learning abilities. Large student teacher ratio, say 50:1, means more students to be managed for each teacher and thus lesser individual attention. This metric of student teacher ratio has become an important factor to be considered while selecting new schools for your kids. Schools with low student teacher ratio realize this and actively advertise this and also charge for this. What is an optimal student teacher ratio: Is smaller student teacher ratio always better?... Its the result / report day for your young one. Most parents are more jittery than their kids who actually took the exams. We want to know how did they perform, will they be rewarded for their and our hard work, will they score well in maths and science and are they skilled in lan guages? Thousand questions that need answers from the report card. But are their some answers that need to be looked independent of the report card? I think results day is a very important day. Not only because you get the report card, but because you get a chance to see the teacher/s who have taught the kid for one year and have had a chance to observe him/her and evaluate his/her performance in comparison to 50 other kids in the same class. They have a perspective that we lack because they are exposed to hundreds to kids of that age over the years and can spot some real trends which we can not. Its important to use this opportunity to dig deeper than the report card. So what must you really ask the teacher and how?... [More]

We all realize, and rightly so, the importance of Maths and Science education in the formative years. The role the early education plays in building a strong foundation for later years cannot be over emphasized. How many times have we seen parents are a worried lot because their young ones had a lesser inclination for these subjects. How may times have we seen parents going overboard to try to inculcate maths and science "culture" in their kids through schools, tuitions, extra classes, ...! But have you wondered that why is it that kids show distinct dislike for these 2 subjects in particular? What is it that pushes them away from these 2 subjects to the point of a phobia. I have observed this over the years and often pondered on this myself. I think there are 2 possible reasons for this... [More]
