Get rid of Math-o-phobia

Get rid of Math-o-phobio

Translation of above article
Math is a subject which till this dates kids fear greatly. Students still try to escape or circumvent solving difficult multiplication tables or complicated questions. But the issue in not in the kids or their brain power. Instead, it is the teaching approach that must be blamed. Have you seen them playing games? You will find they are some of the smartest problem solvers at that time of playing. Kunal Gandhi (BTech - IIT Bombay and PGDM - IIM Ahmedabad) and Gunjan Agrawal (BTech - IIT Bombay and MS - University of North Carolina, USA) have very innovatively combined this love for games and fear of Math to teach Math. Their company, Logic Roots have made games to teach Math to kids and rid them of this Math-o-phobia. They are addressing the complete class-by-class curriculum of NCERT-India, NCTM-US and NCERT-Singapore.

Fun is important in class

In our education system, teachers engage in one way communication with students. This is as if teachers are trying to give out the knowledge goodies but some how, the students are not ready to receive them yet.Logic Roots team understood that the main is reason is lack of proper communication in the class. The students are not able to raise questions in the class due to their fear and this further complicates a subject for them. After observing the classroom communication in a lot of other countries, the Logic Roots team has decided combine learning with fun in Indian classrooms too.

Learn as you play

Their first attempt is to remove this Math-o-phobia in Indian kids. For this they have launched BrainX Math training program along with computer and non computer based games. The BrainX work sheets, Math activities and games are sent directly to students in their homes. The worksheets are designed so that students feel like playing a game. With their special system, not only will Math improve for kids but also their decision making abilities.

Increase the pace of learning

Kunal and Gunjan feel that every child will learn in a different way. Some slower than others. This is why they are afraid to raise questions in the class and then get left behind. This keeps adding to their fear. That why the games and activities have been designed with their pace and learning ability in mind. Gradually the Math performance of student will increase and so will his confidence to participate in the class.

You get detailed feedback

AdapteX feedback engine is linked to the games. The students are immersed in playing a game and solving Math problems. AdapteX works in the background adjusting the difficulty level as per student's ability and gradually increases it. Further, psychologists and psychoanalysts monitor the improvement trends in the background. All this information is shared in a structured way with the teachers and parents so that they too can help the child in the right places

Miles to go

Currently the program has been launched for selected schools in Jaipur, Delhi and Bilaspur. Gradually, they will invite more schools and parents across India to get associated with the program. Teachers and students are both liking this program very much. Currently, this is open for students of KG to class 5 but they will gradually open this program to other classes as well.
