Hello, My son is studying in 7th Grade ICSE,Ahmedabad. We have no chance of relocatting but want to make his chances better for further studies after 12th and should have to option to go any where in India. So should we 1) Change over board in Grade 8 to CBSE keeping in view that he has better score and advantage of curriculum of competetive exams. He is A+ grade student till now. Option for CBSE school are also available with same infra structure 2) If he remains in ICSE then what is the percentage seats available for direct admission base on your 12th Course. Does CBSE have more percentage allocation? 3) If ever after 12th he plans to go to US or UK or Australia or any other country then which is better board ? Awaiting eagerly your response [View Answer]

Hi Namrata,

thanks for your query. let me start answering from reverse.
3) in theory, icse might have a very slight advantage since it is more aligned to the uk course. but the advantage, if any, is too small. most good colleges will ask students to submit their sat scores. and these scores (along with essays) are the deciding factors for admission to colleges for undergraduate degree.
2.there is nothing like a reservation for icse or cbse students. most colleges in engineering and medical have a separate entrance test. so board score is not the only factor.
and colleges for commerce and arts stream treat the scores in the 2 boards at par. at least we are not aware of any exceptions. though they may have some seats or quota for local state board students  but nothing like that for icse or cbse.
3. that is entirely your call. if the child is happy in the school and performing well academically, why change? if you change, please give him about 3-6 months of adjustment time. this is the time he will take to adjust to new curriculum, new teaching style and new schools.

hope this helped. if you have more queries, please feel free to write back.
