Hi Swetha,

Thanks for the query and its impressive that you are looking at options this early. Here are some suggestions from me.

1. To know more about different boards in India e.g. CBSE, ICSE, IB, state boards etc, I would recommend you have a look at these 2 articles below.
www.schoolcountry.com/.../...-boards-in-India.aspx

2. More importantly, for a young kid, I would recommend to find a good school that is near your home (and not focus too much on the board). Minimize the commuting time for the child and use that time for other activities that add value.

3. Finally, how do you go about finding good schools? We have come out with our 4 points guide to finding good schools. The points have been summarized here.

I hope that it should be good to get you started. Once you have had a chance to review these articles, please do get back to us with more specific questions that you may have and we would be happy to discuss in detail.

Hi Swetha,

You are most welcome! Would be great to have your comments (on those articles or here) once you have read through those.

As for your question, Yes. It is possible to switch schools and boards later. In fact until class 6, it should not be too difficult. Students take about 3-4 months of time to adjust to a new system of teaching and a slightly different syllabus. But they manage.

Schools usually do not have buffer vacancies. But people relocate with their jobs. This creates vacancies in the existing class. Also, good new schools are coming up regularly and existing ones are investing to expand their infrastructure. This opens up more seats in the classes.

Did that help? Good luck

Sunandan

Thanks again. I will get back once I have explored all the schools in my area.
