Let me start with an example.

When we start reading, we read letter by letter or word by word. As we develop our vocabulary, then words come naturally to us. So we our reading speed improves.
As we read more, we begin to read in phrases, not in individual words. So our reading speed improves further. Finally, as you read even more, you develop an ability to scan the page and get the gist / meaning quickly. Thus speed improves even further.

Same is true with numbers. Once you get comfortable with single digit addition, you can move to 2 digit additions and so on.

The whole point of that example is to say 2 things. To become faster in higher level skills, you need
1. to develop strong competence in lower level skills. So get them to practice on basic skills first
2. practice practice and practice till the lower level skills become just natural and comes to you without thinking. Kids can practice without pressure when they love that topic / subject. So make sure they enjoy the subject. Teach it as a game that they enjoy. By the way, thats the whole focus of our website and our products too.
